La primera reunión de Todos por el Lago Santa Cruz la Laguna se llevó a cabo el día viernes 20 a las 4pm en la municipalidad, estuvieron presentes el 1ro, Sindico Pascual, en representación del alcalde, otro miembro del consejo de la municipalidad, 3 representantes de la Organización de Jóvenes de Santa Cruz, Noe de Amigos de Santa Cruz, Pat Torpie, Ana San Sebastián y Armand Boissy.
Despues de una introducción por parte de Pat se presentó la agenda de la reunión.
El representante de la municipalidad presentó el trabajo que han realizado en diferentes temas asociados con el tratamiento de desechos. Ellos informaron de que la Muni recibió Q210,000 por parte de Fonapaz para construir un tanque para las aguas residuales, y agregar un sistema para agregar cloro al final de la planta.
También informó de que la municipalidad se comprometió a dar el 50% de su presupuesto hacia el proyecto de desechos líquidos y sólidos.
Por el momento la municipalidad está buscando comprar terrenos alrededor del que poseen actualmente para la planta de tratamiento.
También se informó de que la ONG Prosol hará un estudio técnico para la planta de desechos de Tzununa (a pesar de que el alcalde nos informó cuando notificó a los chaleteros para la junta, de que el consejo municipal aprobó un decreto en el cual se rechazaba colocar una planta de aguas residuales en Tzununá y se prefería una fosa séptica).
Se dió a conocer también de que se colocó una petición al SNIP (Secretaría para la Planificación de la Presidencia) para realizar un estudio para la ampliación de la actual planta de tratamiento.
Noé, de Amigos de Santa Cruz explicó que a la Municipalidad le hacen falta reglamentos para implementar la mayoría de acciones que se deben de realizar para proteger el lago.
El representante municipal indicó de que le van a pedir al INFOM asistencia para realizar los reglamentos que se necesitan.
Pat Torpie propuso a la municipalidad que se desconecte la tuberia de la pila communal del sistema de drenajes y que ésta se envíe directamente hacia un lado de la montaña para que el agua se pueda filtrar en la tierra, y en la época seca ayudará a que toda sea absorbida antes de llegar al lago.
Se indicó que la pila, estando en el centro del pueblo podría ser muy pequeña para ser utilizada por todas las familias, y de que tal vez se debería de pedir a las mujeres que desconecten la tubería de aguas grises de sus casas para que éstas desagüen en sus jardines en las casas que posean jardines y de que colocar nuevas pilas en diferentes sectores ayudaría a disminuir el impacto en el sistema de drenajes.
El representante del alcalde se lo mencionará en la siguiente junta de concejales de la municipalidad.
El representante del alcalde también informó de que se han reunido con los dueños de tiendas para pedirles que no den más bolsas plásticas. El otro representante mencionó que en otros tiempos las personas llevaban su propio pedazo de tela para llevar allí lo que compraban.
La mitad de los dueños llegó a la reunión, así que la municipalidad convocará nuevamente a los que no pudieron asistir.
Armand Boissy mencionó la existencia de jabones libres de fósforo de la compañía Hankel, que es fabricado en Guatemala, y que debería de ser el único tipo de jabones que se debería de vender en las tiendas del pueblo. Uno de los representantes de Jóvenes de Santa Cruz se ofreció como voluntario para visitar las tiendas y verificar qué tipo de productos están vendiendo. Armand Boissy tratará de contactar el distribuidor de los productos Henkel en el área para que provea el pueblo con sus productos.
Armand Boissy también preguntó a los representantes de la municipalidad estudiar la posibilidad de proveer a los chaleteros con agua de manantial del pueblo, ya que hay una gran preocupación acerca de la posibilidad de seguir utilizando el agua del lago para uso doméstico.
Todos los presentes acordaron formar un comité de Todos por el Lago Santa Cruz.

Indeed we met on Friday afternoon at 1600 at the municipality
Where present the 1ro Sindico Pascual in representation of the mayor,an other member of the city council of which I forget the name, 3 representatives of the youth association of Sta Cruz, Noe from Amigos de Santa Cruz. Pat Torpie, Ana San Sebastian and myself.
After an introduction from Pat and presenting the agenda of the meeting.
The town representative spoke about their work on the different issues associated with the sewage treatment. They informed us that the Muni received Q 210,000 from Fonapaz to build more tank for the sewage plant, and add a chlorination system at the exit of the plant.
He also informed us that city compromised 50 % of their budget for project regarding liquid and solid disposal.
Right now the village is looking into buying more land around the actual sewage plant.
They also informed us that the NGO Prosol will do a tecnical study for a sewage plant in Tzununa (despite the mayor informed us when he calls the Chaleteros for a meeting that the city councel approved a decree in which they refuse to put a sewage plant in Tzununa and prefer to choose the septic tank)
They also informed us that they put in the SNIP (which is Secretary for Planificacion of the Presidency) a request for a study to enlarge the actual sewage plant.
Noe from Amigos de Sta Cruz explained that the Municipality is lacking the "reglamentos" to implement most of the action needed to protect the lake.
The city representative of the city indicate that they will ask INFOM to help them make the lacking "reglamentos".
Pat Torpie proposed at the City to disconnect the main pila of the village from the drainage system and send it directly to the hill side so the grey water will be filtering
along the land and with the dry season should help to have it dry before reaching the lake.
It has been indicated that the pila being in the center of the village might be too small to handle all the families.. and that maybe it could be asked to the women to disconnect
their grey water and have them run in their garden where it is possible. and maybe install new pilas in the different sectors to lower the impact on the sewage system.
The mayor representative will mentioned it during the next city council meeting.
The mayor representative also informed that they had met with the owner of the tiendas to ask them not to give any more plastic bags, The other city representative
mentioned that in his time people would bring piece of textile to wrap what ever they would buy.
Half of the owners came to the meeting so the city will cite again the absent ones.
Armand Boissy mentioned the existence of the phosphate free soap that the company Hankel which is made in Guatemala should be the only soap to be sell in the tiendas of the village... The representative of the Youth of Sta Cruz volunteer to visit the tiendas and see what products they are selling. Armand Boissy would like to contact the distributor of the Henkel product in the area to provide the village with these products.
Armand Boissy also ask the city representative to study the factibility of providing the chaleteros with spring water as there is big concern about the possibility of keeping using
the lake water for household use.
It has been agreed by all the present persons to form a committee of Todos por el lago Sta Cruz.
